Burger King Chili Voted Best of the
Year 2004

The warm evening air
couldn't hold a candle to the heat inside the simmering pots of
delicious chili concoctions with colorful names such as Surf &
Turf, A Taste of Chocolate, Minerva’s, and Throw it in the Pot
Chili.
The
1st Annual Chili Cook-off, sponsored by the Clay County
Networkers & The Royal Fire Department was held at the Spencer V.F.W.
Hall on Saturday, May 8th, 2004.
The
attendees served as judges. Top chili cooks
were: first place, Burger King with it’s Burger King Chili;
second place, Newman’s Cakes & Crustaceans with it’s Surf & Turf
Chili; and third place went to the V.F.W. Team cooks, Keith and
Fran Grover,
with their Veteran’s Chili.
The
Grover’s also tied the Hannah Marie Country Inn’s team for the
Best Themed
Presentation Award. The winners were selected based on the overall
look of the contestant’s table and how the team dressed.
Judy
Bang of Peterson won the 1st of 8 Limited Edition chili
pepper dolls created exclusively for the event by Barb Dean of The
Plaster Shop & Doll Mfg Co. Members of the Royal Girl Scout troops
served as judges in the Name the Doll contest. These young doll
experts selected five top names for the doll, all of which were placed
in a ballot box. Brownie scout Lindsey Boetel drew the winning doll
name: Hot Spice.
