
The French Museum is open by appointment. Groups as
small as 4 or 5 are welcome, but no children under the age of 12.

The French Memorial Museum
The French Museum contains the
life-long collections of 95 year old Doris French.
There are
over 200 dolls which she has dressed in the times they were made,
rare antique furniture including wicker baby buggies and
dual-purpose high chairs, toys, one of a kind dishes, tankards, tea
sets, cruets, demonstration stoves, lamps, quilts, and much more.
This is a beautifully kept museum
that contains something of interest for everyone. |
| Fort Peterson Blockhouse
Fort Peterson is one of a string of forts constructed
in 1862-1863 by troops known as the Northern Border Brigade. It is
the only one left of the entire chain of forts.

The J. A.
Kirchner Home Built in 1875, this showcase home
contains walnut woodwork, a winding stairway and beautiful cupboards
in the pantry. Displayed in the furnished home are some of the
original tools used to build it.

The
Kirchner Park Museum The Christian Kirchner
home is a typical Dutch Colonial structure. Built in 1867, it was
the first frame house in Clay County. The home remained in Kirchner
family possession until 1971, when it was given to the town of
Peterson, to be administered by the Peterson Heritage, Inc.
Peterson Heritage members have restored and
renovated the home, which is open during the bi-annual Heritage Tour
(even numbered years), by appointment, and for tours. This home
represents a typical family farm home of the era. Free-will
donations are gratefully accepted. |

Rock Forest Schoolhouse Rock Forest School is
one of the first frame school houses built in Clay County. It was
completely restored and furnished in 1963 by the Peterson Lions
Club.

Jim's History Barn is located on 4th Street, just
east of Main Street (also known as M27) and it runs through
Peterson.
Local schools often bring classrooms for Jim's
excellent historic class on local history! If you have
children, don't miss an opportunity to let them walk-in-the-shoes of
our ancestors -- even if only an hour.

History Barn
Jim Hass has completely restored this
vintage barn and has housed it with an enormous collection of
memorabilia from our country's wars and local artifacts.
You'll see everything from vintage tools, toys, and clothing to
Indian artifacts and even a human skeleton!
