The French Memorial Museum

The French Museum contains the life-long collections of 95 year old Doris French. There are over 200 dolls which she has dressed in the times they were made, rare antique furniture including wicker baby buggies and dual-purpose high chairs, toys, one of a kind dishes, tankards, tea sets, cruets, demonstration stoves, lamps, quilts, and much more.

This is a beautifully kept museum that contains something of interest for everyone.

Fort Peterson Blockhouse

Fort Peterson is one of a string of forts constructed in 1862-1863 by troops known as the Northern Border Brigade. It is the only one left of the entire chain of forts.

The first church services and Sunday school for area people were held in this home. To schedule a tour, e-mail Burdette Stier at: bstier@pionet.net The Kirchner Park Museum

The Christian Kirchner home is a typical Dutch Colonial structure. Built in 1867, it was the first frame house in Clay County. The home remained in Kirchner family possession until 1971, when it was given to the town of Peterson, to be administered by the Peterson Heritage, Inc.

Peterson Heritage members have restored and renovated the home, which is open during the bi-annual Heritage Tour (even numbered years), by appointment, and for tours. This home represents a typical family farm home of the era. Free-will donations are gratefully accepted.

The Rock Forest Schoolhouse

Rock Forest School is one of the first frame school houses built in Clay County. It was completely restored and furnished in 1963 by the Peterson Lions Club.

Jim's History Barn is located on 4th Street, just east of Main Street (also known as M27) and it runs through Peterson.

Local schools often bring classrooms for Jim's excellent historic class on local history!  If you have children, don't miss an opportunity to let them walk-in-the-shoes of our ancestors -- even if only an hour.

Open by appointment for tours, free-will offering appreciated, contact owner/collector Jim Hass at:  (712) 295-6552
