Historic Sites

Royal was founded in 1900 as a site for a Rock Island Railroad depot.

The Clay Central-Everly School District has two locations, one in Royal, Iowa and the other in Everly, Iowa. The Royal Elementary School is located at 401 Church Street, PO Box 110, Royal, IA 51357, Phone: (712)933-2241, Fax:(712)933-2243.

This school building has been around for a long time, but it has been well-maintained and will serve its community for some time to come.

This is an enlarged view of the freestanding plaque that identifies the restored schoolhouse.

Royal's Historical Society has done an excellent job of preserving Riverton No. 8 School which was originally built in 1935.
