The Founding of Fostoria's Only Church happened "In circa, 1893, the Milwaukee Railroad was extended from Spencer to Spirit Lake, Iowa and a depot was built at Fostoria.
 
   
   
 

Blacked-eyed Susans grow in abundance in and around Clay County.

  • 8 miles to the West of Fostoria is Mori Prairie, a protected area of virgin prairie. 3 miles to the East is Schmerse's, another area filled with natural beauty.

One Fostoria couple grows Giant Pumpkins in their garden. The largest grown in the world reach over 1,300 pounds, but this couple is hoping for one in excess of 500 pounds to take to the 2004 Clay County Fair

  The coloring on Giant Pumpkins can run from a light yellow all the way to a deep pumpkin orange -- depending on the genetics of the seed. 

 


   
 

Fostoria has great gardeners!

Present and past Fostoria residents are regular "Blue Ribbon Winners" at the Clay County Fair!  Several of Fostoria's resident bring home awards each year at the Clay County Fair for their outstanding vegetables.

 
 
 
 

Dan Carlson of Clinton IA grew a pumpkin weighing 1028.8 pounds in 2003. His pumpkin was entered in Int'l competition at the Anamosa, IA Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off held on Saturday, October 4, 2003.
