Royal was founded in 1900 as a site for a Rock Island Railroad depot. Having started with 18 businesses and less than 300 people, presently it is home to approximately 42 businesses and 479 residents.
 

Town Features:
Main Street contains a bank, grocery store and restaurant, library, cafe and post office, as well as other businesses. Clay Central Everly Middle and Grade school, south site, are also located in Royal.

                     

Located 13 miles southwest of Spencer, Royal is noted for its rich black soil and friendly people. Today it is a prosperous and busy farming community.
