Brother LX3125 Review

Nice sized levers and simple controls make the Brother LX 3125 sewing machine one of the best sewing machines for anyone who wants a set of solid, utility stitches and easy operation.

It's lightweight, extremely portable, and even has a built-in handle at the top of the machine.

This is a very basic sewing machine perfect as a backup machine or to teach young children how to sew. There are no complicated settings to worry about.

Brother LX 3125 Stitch Patterns

Many of today's home sewing machines come with a programmed set of stitch patterns called "built-in stitches". There are 14 such stitches on this machine including a straight stitch with the needle in the center, a straight stitch with the needle to the left (which helps get close to seam edges), several styles of zigzag stitches, a stretch blind hem stitch, a shell tuck stitch for hemming, and an elastic stitch. There is also a four-step automatic buttonhole maker.

Stitch length is adjustable up to 4mm and stitch width adjustable up to 5mm.

Stitches are selected by rotating the easy-to-grasp dial on the machine front to the desired pattern.

Brother LX 3125 Presser Feet

Four snap-on style presser feet are included with purchase. The presser foot lever has 3 height settings - regular down position, up, and an extra high up for thicker fabrics. These presser feet include the General Purpose foot used for most sewing, a Buttonhole foot to make buttonholes fast and easy, a Zipper foot for zipper attachment, and a Button Sewing foot which allows you to use the machine to attach two and four hole buttons.

Brother LX 3125 Sewing Machine Features

Not all machines in this price range include the capability to perform twin needle sewing. With a twin needle, you can create parallel lines of stitches using the same color thread or two different colors. These parallel lines make for more creative hemming options and provide an opportunity to add a bit of creativity to your sewing projects.

Other features include:

  • Maximum sewing speed of 900 stitches per minute
  • Automatic bobbin winder
  • Free-arm sewing
  • Adjustable thread tension dial
  • Buttonhole adjusting screw to ensure even stitch width on both sides of the buttonhole
  • Bobbin case tension adjustment dial
  • Vertical top thread delivery
  • Front-loading bobbin case
  • Built in carry handle
  • Work light

A darning plate is included in the accessory kit so that patching clothes or repairing tears can be done quickly. Stitching is smooth and even and the foot pedal responds appropriately to pressure across all sewing speeds - slow to fast. For those just learning to sew, the Brother LX 3125 provides a reasonably priced entrance to this exciting hobby.

Frequently Asked Questions...

Hemming stitch, how do I do this using Zigzag ?

I have a brother sewing machine and it does not appear to have a particular hemming stitch, it is not computerised but does have a three step zigzag and a wider and narrower picture of a zigzag, please can anyone explain how to do a hem, I have tried using the directions for if I had blind hem stitch but not quite right so wondered if anyone could give some advice, thanks in anticipation
My machine is a brother sewing machine, model no XL-2120

Answer:

What you need is a stitch where every 5th stitch is a big V. The V is the stitch which will go through to the front of the material, so you fold the material over and just catch the edge of this fold with the top of the V
It doesn't much matter whether the smaller stitches in between are straight stitches or smaller v. The smaller stitches go on the top of the hem that will be inside the garment and not seen, so this part is on the right in the machine.on the left is fold that you are just catching the top of.

You could do it by sliding the material to the left so that the in-between stitches miss the fold, but from what you describe the machine does have a blind stitch. What model is it?
