Frequently Asked Questions...
Trying to repair my brother's 3rd generation ipod nano - it went in the washing machine!!?
My little 10-year-old brother left his 3rd gen ipod nano in his pocket and it went through the washing machine. Surprisingly, everything is okay except a few minor scratches on the sides of the aluminum casing - and the display light is not working. The screen is intact and actually pretty clear - but you can't really see anything because the backlight must be broken. I'm having trouble finding parts for this because it's rather new. I have found the lcd screen at this website: http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/2620-ipod-nano3g-lcd-screen.html
I was wondering if anyone knew if this lcd screen would include the backlight. Also, in case I don't feel capable of taking the nano apart myself, where can I get it serviced (besides Apple)? Sorry for the long description, and thanks for your help. Best answer to first appropriate response...
Answer:
Ok I dont know much about ipods but i can repair cell phones so may be ill be able to answer you.
!st thing yhat you need to do after some electronic gets water damage is unscrew it and simply dry it up quickly either with a hair dryer or under a bulb, then take an old tooth brush and brush it up carefully prefably with a very light thinner. Be very careful while doing all this specially using hair dryer as more heat can cause ICs and other parts to unsolder and come off soo use it with a distance and no matter what you do,do it all gently.
Its easy to service it yourself if you be careful, but sorry I dont know of any place where you can get it services, may be you can take it to some hardware repair shop.
Now usually the screen has the small light bulbs fixed in it in most cases, otherwise if they are separate and they are not turning on its not cuz they are faulty but its cuz of some other hardware fault, may be some wires on board of some part is faulty.
If the bulbs are in the lcd its not 100% sure that changing the lcd will result in the lights to turn on,the jack that connects the lcd to the board is very sensitive and may be that is damages which prevents the lights from coming up.try brushing that up as well,if its faulty that can be replaces as well. Also that it is quite possible that just changing the lcd will make the lights turn on. Sometimes its just a little bit of rusting that causes such problems.
I hope you get it all and you get it all to work perfectly again. But if this all confuses you,and you fear to screw it all up or fear killing it all then just get some professional help.
Feel free to ask anything else you want. Take Care. Bye n Merry Christmas
