I know that Singer is more popular but I've heard good things about Brother brand. I'm looking for an affordable, easy to use machine that is durable enough to go from clothing to thicker items like quilts. I have found two machines that say they can handle quilting. A Singer Simple 2264 and a Brother XL-2600i. Both are under a hundred at Wal-mart. Anyone have any experience with these machines? Suggestions please. The Brother seems to have better features but I don't want to get that one only to discover I was distracted by the bells and whistles. At the same time I don't want to get a Singer with less capabilities just because it's the big name in sewing.

I have owned both Singer and Brother sewing machines, I will tell you Singer USED to be a good brand but now they are really LOW QUALITY. I love my BROTHER Sewing machine it has wonderful features and the are built like the Singer's USED to be built HIGH QUALITY and easy to use I have had my machine for over five years now and have never had a problem with it. In fact the reason I bought it is because the Brother that I had before had lasted over ten years but someone stole it Before that I had a Singer that lasted less than a year before the motor burnt out and I didn't use it nearly as much as I use my Brother. So for Quality go with BROTHER.
