Frequently Asked Questions...
Which of these sewing machines is better?
I received two different sewing machines for Christmas and now have to decide which one to return. They are similar in price, and both have good customer reviews on various sites. I currently know nothing about sewing machines, and am hoping to get a suggestion from someone more experienced. Which one would you choose, and why?
I got a:

Answer:
According to the links you provided both have great reviews.
Both have the same features.
I would take back the one that is the easiest/cheapest to return:
(1) Walk-in and return vs shipping back.
(2) Do you have a gift receipt for each?
(3) Will the store refund the money or do you have to take a store credit?
Regardless of which one you decide to keep, once you decide, take it out of the box and set on a table. Open the manual. As you are sitting in front of the machine, read and apply each step or every feature from bobbin winding through maintenance.
Do not rely on just the pictures as important steps can be overlooked. Such as:
(1) Always thread with the presser foot up.
(2) Make sure the bobbin thread is feeding in the correct direction from the bobbin spool and through the tension gauge on the side of the bobbin case.
(3) Have the needle at it's highest level when cutting the thread or when removing or inserting the bobbin case.
(4) Test the stitching, settings and buttonhole feature with a folded scrap of fabric.
