Our Organization: ATA
|
The American Taekwondo Association (ATA) is the premier North
American organization dedicated to the martial arts discipline
of taekwondo, and is the founding organization of other
international affiliates that include the World Traditional
Taekwondo Union (WTTU) and the Songahm Taekwondo Federation (STF).
Counting both the U.S. and worldwide, our organizations have
over 1,500 independently owned and operated licensed schools and
clubs, and we are beginning to register over 300,000 members. |

“Martial Art” is a broad term that
encompasses many styles of the fighting arts that have been
developed over hundreds of years. Songahm Taekwondo is not just
another martial art. It is the world’s largest centrally
administered martial art. This system of teaching and training,
developed by Grand Master H.U. Lee and his staff, is unequaled in
the martial arts community. During its early years, the ATA used the
Chang-hun style of forms. Grand Master Lee wanted forms that
demonstrated the strength and beauty of kicking techniques so he
created 18 Songahm forms designed to emphasize kicks.
